Murrine

Glass murrine prepared on a kiln shelf.
Murrine layout before it is blown into a vessel

Murrine presents numerous technical challenges but yields infinite color patterns that are simply stunning. There is much preparation that goes into murrine work and involves many hours of color selection, cane making, cutting, and design layout. Once the prep work is complete the design is then heated up, fused and attached to a blowpipe to begin the creation of the vessel. This series was the main focus of my work during my year residency in Taiwan in 2013.
